We are happy and excited to have your students filling our classrooms and hallways again! I look forward to seeing all of our students and will spend the majority of my time in classrooms in the coming weeks to support our teachers and students. If you are not yet following us on Twitter, please do and stay abreast of what is going on at Hilburn between 8:15 and 3:00.
We are aiming for a smooth transition into the 2016-2017 school year and wish you the same at home. As you settle in, please let us know if questions or concerns arise. We are happy to help. Please continue to be aware of the following:
Carpool Tags: We ask that anyone participating in carpool purchase a new tag. Tags are $2.00 and are being reissued for safety purposes to ensure everyone picking up children is authorized to do so in the 2016-2017 school year.
Afternoon Carpool: We will begin calling carpool numbers immediately after the 3:00 bell. WCPSS and school policy prohibit the use of cell phones in the carpool line. Please stay focused on the line and our students to ensure their safety. We hope all will go well from the start but do anticipate some adjustments as the school year begins. Please be patient with all involved as we work to enforce policies and procedures and get all carpool drivers and students on the same page.
Morning Carpool: Be sure to fill in the entire carpool circle each morning and be prepared to move at all times. We will begin opening doors for students at 7:45 and will continue to do so until 8:10. If your student(s) is not out of the car by 8:10, you will need to escort him/her in. We will be asking all staff to vacate the carpool circle to enforce this policy as stated in our handbook.
Volunteer Registration: We encourage our community members to support our students and teachers as volunteers. If you are a current volunteer, you need to renew your registration as soon as possible. New volunteers, you will complete the registration process and await a clearance e-mail from WCPSS. Once you receive a clearance e-mail, we welcome you on campus. This process usually takes three weeks. To register, please visit any WCPSS site, sign is as a guest, and access Volunteer Registration.
WCPSS Transportation: Bus routes are posted on WCPSS, and you can find your student’s bus information in the Parent Portal. If you need bus service and have not yet registered, you can still register with WCPSS; however, bus service is not guaranteed the first days of school. Likewise, if you have registered but do not use bus service the first ten days of school, you will lose your bus service.
If there are updates throughout the week, we will update our website and contact you through our automated phone system. We look forward to working with all of you this year in our efforts to provide our twenty-first century learners with a superior STEAM education!
