We want to thank our PTA for hosting Bright Star Theatre this week. Our Pre-K to Fourth-Grade students enjoyed a production of Aesop’s Fables, and our Fifth Grade to Eighth-Grade students enjoyed Heroes from the Underground Railroad. I am excited to share that many of our teachers and students found connections to these productions in their classrooms both prior to and after the performance. Thank you, PTA, for our on-going cultural arts programming.
Athletics Update: The Wake County School Board has determined that Hilburn Academy students will continue to play sports at Leesville Middle School. We are excited this partnership will continue! With that in mind, we want to acknowledge the following students, all of whom are representing Hilburn as athletes on Leesville’s spring teams.
- Savannah Dunham, track
- Alex Gentry, track
- Samantha Gentry, track
- Reagan Hurley, softball
- Liam Johnston, soccer
- Andy Trango, soccer
Career Week: The week of March 20 to 24 is Career Week at Hilburn. We are excited to host parents and business partners in our classroom throughout the week. Please consider joining us one of those days to speak to your student’s class or to speak in other classrooms. If you have questions, please contact your classroom parent(s) or Ms. Daley for elementary school and Dianna Stavros, Jenna Warren or Stephanie Pohlman for middle school.
Why I Teach: This week, we are highlighting our sixth-grade science teacher and Teacher of the Year, Jennifer Browndorf. She has been recognized as one of twenty-six WPCSS semifinalists, and we want to send positive energy her way so she can represent Hilburn Academy as a finalist. Please see why Mrs. Browndorf teaches through her 4 Cs Teacher of the Year video as well as her recent accolades from the NC Soil and Water Conservation and Advocates for Health in Action.
