Students in Ms. Bass's Tech Design classes were recently challenged to research, design and build a wearable health device for the One Health Initiative competition held at NC State. The Anaphylactic Stop, which won first place, is a watch that detects if the user is possibly having an Anaphylactic shock. The user is then alerted as are family members or close friends. The student designers and engineers were Justin Hickland, Kieron Leonida, and Ian Atkins. The AlertBand, which won third place, is a bracelet that allows children with epilepsy to send notifications to a parent/guardian when they feel the onset of a seizure. The student designers and engineers were Sophie Jackle, Bennett Smith, Seehar Fazel, and Chris Mills. Congratulations to Ms. Bass and these students!
New Kenan Fellow: Ms. Eby
We are excited to announce that Mrs. Maria Eby, our sixth-grade math teacher, is a Kenan Fellow! The Kenan Fellows Program is a prestigious leadership and curriculum enhancement program that gives teachers the opportunity to collaborate with researchers and industry leaders to empower our students in the classroom. Hilburn is proud to recognize Mrs. Eby and its three former Kenan Fellows, Ms. Michelle Bass, Ms. Lauren Boop and Ms. Dianna Stavros.
Please Be On Time!
Recently, we have had an influx of tardy students. Students who enter the building after 8:10 and are likely to be late to class are marked tardy. Our school handbook asks that all students be at school by 8:10 and states parents’ responsibility to sign in tardy students. If there are no Hilburn employees in the carpool line to greet your student(s), you should be coming in the building to sign in your student(s).
Get Your Free Energy Kit to Enter Hilburn in Drawing for $10,000

For every 25 kits we request, Hilburn will again be entered into the drawing. Please go to MyEnergyKit.org and request a free home energy efficiency kit.
