I want to extend a special thank you to everyone who contributed to or helped with Friday’s Thanksgiving Luncheon. Our staff was both excited and appreciative, and the food was delicious. Please remember Wednesday is a Teacher Workday. We look forward to having our students back on Monday, November 30. I wish each of your families a wonderful Thanksgiving and holiday weekend.
We remain committed to the goal that all of our Hilburn Hawks will read at or above grade level and enjoy the reading they do. Hopefully, you and your student(s) will find some time to read together when at home this week.
Literacy Tip #4: Model for your student.
Parents should be reading as well. One of the most effective ways to show a student what he should be doing is to model it for him. Set a reading goal for yourself and challenge yourself to read books in different genres. As you struggle to find time for reading or struggle to read books in genres you don’t find particularly interesting, talk to your child about it. When you accomplish smaller reading goals, talk with your child about it. Read books your child has read or might like and talk with him about those books.
When you return from the holidays, please be aware of the following:
- November 30 – December 4: Annual Food Drive
- November 30 – December 4: Interims come home.
- December 2 @ 8:00: Parenting Your Middle-School Student will be held in the Media Center. Join our middle-school counselor, Ms. Warren, and our school psychologist, Ms. Tomaino, for some effective strategies to support your child’s success both in and out of school.
Enjoy your holiday and time with family.
