Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Jennifer Browndorf! She is one of twenty six Wake County Teacher of the Year semi-finalists. She will compete at this level by completing a video about how she integrates the 4 Cs – Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking and Creative Thinking – in her classroom and be observed by district leaders. Wish her luck!
College Week: It’s College Week at Hilburn Academy this week, and our teachers, students and support staff will be introducing our students to various colleges and universities, exploring academic and degree programs, listening to famous fight songs, and learning about famous college graduates among other activities. Please take some time at home each day to ask your child to share what he has learned about going to college.
Read Across America: Thursday is Read Across America Day, and many of our classrooms will be participating in a variety of activities to support literacy and the joy of reading. We encourage you to have conversations at home about your favorite books, your favorite reading space, your favorite characters… and to ask your child to share the same.
Rising Sixth-Grade Registration: The counseling department will be holding a parent information session on Tuesday, March 28th, from 8:30-9:30 am in the Media Center to address the transition to middle school and to answer questions regarding the registration process. We hope you can join us.
Why I Teach: Ms. Erin Gannon, a member of our third-grade team shares with us this week.
I teach because spending my days with children as they explore new things and make discoveries is pretty awesome. One of my favorite things to experience as a teacher is when a student meets a goal they've been working really hard to achieve. Watching a child grow as a person and a student throughout our time together is always so inspiring!
