Welcome kindergarteners and kindergarten families. We are excited to have you officially with us starting today and look forward to getting to know each of you! Our older students have transitioned well to the 2016-2017 school year. We enjoyed welcoming them in the morning and visiting their classrooms and are excited to be back in the swing of school. Thank you for all you do to make sure your students are rested and ready to learn each day. I hope each of you enjoyed the Labor Day holiday and is looking forward to a busy September. Please note the following dates:
Wednesday, September 7: Elementary Open House from 5:30 to 6:30
We will host a 5:30 rotation and a 6:00 rotation so that parents who need to arrive late, to leave early or to visit two classrooms are able to do so. PTA will host a general meeting at 5:30 in the multipurpose room.
Friday, September 9: Early Release at 12:30
Thursday, September 22: Back-to-School Picnic from 5:00 to 7:00
Friday, September 30: Early Release at 12:30
Now that we have settled into routines, it is important all are adhering to school policies and procedures.
Carpool: All who plan to carpool should have a new carpool tag. Starting today, we will be asking families without carpool tags to park and check out their students in the main office. Although we know many of you, this is a security measure that is necessary to ensure the safety of all students. If you have not yet purchased a new carpool tag, please do so. Additionally, parking on the street and walking students to the building is not permitted. It slows down the carpool line and causes confusion and frustration that could potentially endanger students.
Morning Sign-In: All students who arrive after 8:10 should be accompanied into the building by a parent who is able to sign them in. We want all students to be in their seats and ready to learn by 8:15, and arriving by 8:10 is a crucial component.
Walkers: Walkers must be in the designated walk zone and walking to and/or from school. Families are not permitted to identify as walkers and then park and ride. Please be sure you are following WCPSS policy.
We are excited to announce a new middle-school club: Heart and Sole! Like Girls on the Run, Heart and Sole is a life changing character development program for girls in 6th-8th grade and culminating in running a 5k at the NC Museum of Art. Heart and Sole will meet on Tuesdays and Thursday from 3:30 to 4:45 from October 4th to December 15th. The 5K is scheduled for December 10th. Registration closes September 9th. Please contact Angela Bowman at email@example.com with questions.
Have an outstanding Tuesday. We look forward to seeing many of you tomorrowevening.
