It is that time of year when our students begin to feel anxiety about their assessments and upcoming transitions. As a staff, we are committed to reducing anxiety and increasing motivation, and we need your help! Please remind students they have worked all year to be successful and know the strategies they can and should use on their upcoming assessments. Share your confidence in them and acknowledge their hard work this school year preparing for this time. Celebrate their successes and what you love about them, and we will do so as well.
Communication: Starting this month, we will expand our communication service to include text messaging and email. The School Messenger Notification System will alert you on matters such as principal messages, school closings, early dismissals, attendance, special activities and school emergencies. On May 31, you will receive an opt-in message on the cell phone we have on record. We hope you will take a few moments to follow the steps to "Opt-In" to text messages, or you can simply opt-in to receive text messages by texting YES to the number 67587 now. Note: If you have already opted in for another school, you will not receive the opt-in text message. In addition to performing the opt-in process, you will want to ensure that we have your phone numbers and current e-mail addresses in our student information database. You can do that by visiting the front office. Lastly, the expanded service calls multiple phone numbers for all associated parents/guardians. You can choose how you would like to be contacted by using the new SchoolMessenger infoCenter website or infoCenter mobile app for Android and iOS. Review the Parents Guide to infoCenter (http://bit.ly/sm-infocenter) for instructions on setting up your infoCenter account and setting your communications preferences. For support, review the Parent FAQ (http://bit.ly/sm-parent-faq) or contact your school. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. More information can also be found at www.wcpss.net/schoolmessenger.
Middle-School Counselor Feedback: Mrs. Warren wants to collect your feedback on middle-school counseling. Please take time to complete this program evaluation by this Friday, May 26.
Next Year: If your family is not returning to Hilburn next year, please communicate with Mrs. Sturdivant so that we have accurate information to plan for the 2017-2018 school year.
Testing: Please see our testing calendar to help prepare your child. We still need proctors, so please, please sign up at this link. Remember, too, that Child Nutrition Services will serve breakfast to all students on Tuesday, May 30.
Why I Teach: This week, we highlight Melissa Davidson, who supports our Special Education students in Grades 3-5. If you would like to read what other teachers have written, please view our website.
