Our biggest news this week is our students’ success in the Verizon Innovative Learning App Challenge. We want to congratulate middle-school students Amaya Montague, Anna Socha, Aneri Shah, Ali Chughtai, Ben Klenke and Marguerite Masters! Their team won Best in State in the Learning App Challenge, which asked participants to solve a community problem with the use of an app. This win means their app concept is the best among the 1,800 middle-school entries in North Carolina. Our app concept, TRACKRZ, tracks school buses so that students, parents and schools have a better idea of when buses arrive at stops. The app will also allow parents to receive notifications when their child gets on and off the bus after the driver scans the student qr code. We won $5,000 for Hilburn and tablets for every team member. And…it gets better—we are in the running for the App Challenge Fan Favorite award, which will allow us to work with the MIT Media Lab to actually make our concept into a real app. To make this a reality, our concept needs to get the most votes. Help us win by texting TRACKRZ (no "e" in TRACKRZ) to 22333 between January 16 and February 14! Voting is quick and easy, and you can only vote once. Please share with your friends and check out our app commercial: bit.do/Trackrz
